Max’s Journey from Trash to Treasure

One chilly night, Max and his siblings were literally put out with the trash by a neighbor who considered them “pests.” Only Max escaped this cruelty by hiding in a cat lover’s garden, where a Cat Shack volunteer rescued him.

Max was thin and injured, but his sweetness and trust in humans miraculously remained intact. After recovering from his injuries, Max was placed into our adoption center, and was discovered there by his new family, Kathryn and Ben Gress.

The Gresses operate a home-based animal sanctuary, caring for homeless animals and training them to work with troubled youth and depressed adults. Max lives with the Gresses and works to motivate individuals in therapy and to help bridge communication gaps with medical staff.

Although Max was treated poorly early in life, kind people worked together to save him. Max now returns this kindness by using his gifts to reach troubled people and improve their lives.
